If your SharePoint site suddenly disappears on you, check the AppPool first. Recently, while adding a new Web site to our web server, the new site was initially set to be the default site on the server, a royal position held by our SharePoint intranet site. We quickly moved the new site to its own virtual server, but now the SharePoint site would not work properly. All i could get was the top-level site with no graphics, no links to subsites, or a CSS connection. Refusing to believe i had just lost months worth of work (I must bow my head in shame for not having a backup), i made a call to a SharePoint Guru who told me to check the AppPool assigned to my SharePoint site. Lo and Behold, the system had changed the AppPool assigned to my SharePoint site when we accidently made that other web site the default site. All we had to do was set the AppPool back to the proper setting and WHAM!, SharePoint returned. |
