Old School SharePointing - Blackboard Style
Location: BlogsSharePointing - The Act of Collaborating
Posted by: Steve Walker 9/11/2007

I gave a presentation last night to the SharePoint Users Group in Tulsa on how we built www.fanu.com. Although the site is not launched yet, I did not want to leave the group hanging in regards to our monthly meeting. Since we have been scrambling around trying to get the site finished out for launch, I didn't even have time to prepare anything. So, when I got there, It was me and an old school blackboard talking about SharePoint. I thought the meeting went very well and there was lively discussion, great questions and (hopefully) some solutions to problems that the folks were having in thier SharePoint environments.

I promise to come back after the site is launched to give a better presentation about the site with more "Show" and less "Tell"

Happy SharePointing !!

Steve,
How does one best learn Sharepoint from a beginners point of view? I am not a programmer but have done single server installations of WSPS2003. What would you recommend?
Thanks

Great Question. SharePoint can be daunting at first. I would recommend getting Ted Pattison and Danial Larson's book on WSS Development (there's links to it in the forums under tulsa study group section)

Also, you should go get the source code for the CKS:EBE (Enhanced Blog Edition) and the Intranet / Extranet Edition for some great code samples. There are many other SharePoint projects on CodePlex that also have great source code samples, etc.

As with any other new technology, the best way to learn is to jump in and start breaking things (not in you rproduction environment of course ;-) )

Was www.fanu.com built with SharePoint? My company is looking to implement our intranet portal redesign using MOSS 2007. I'm looking for other organization that have implemented large scale intranets. Do you know of any?
