Of course we would all like to have an actual SharePoint Site for collaborating on our varous project documents, tasks, issues, etc...
I have set up a SharePoint Site Here: http://groupprojects.sharepointforums.com/default.aspx
We can use this site for now to set up the project plan, etc... Later, if we decide to move it, we will export it as a template and move it to another location.
Each member of the Project Team will need a login and password to the SharePoint Site. Right now, I have to create those accounts for you. Please respond to this thread and I will contact you with your login and password (login will match your forums login)
If by some chance I miss you in here, email info@sharepointforums.com and let me eknow you need a login.
The host that I am using will not allow anonymous access to the SharePoint Site I created. Bummer... I'd like for everyone to be able to see the site and how we are using it to track project status, etc...
Maybe I should look for another host but for now, all members of the project team will have access to the site (I'll provide logins) and we will post periodic status, etc to this site to keep others informed.
Eric ~ I'd like to chat with you when you get some time about what/when/how we can set up a development environment for use by the group.
Steve,
What is the status of the server for the project? We can probably get by one more meeting without one as a lot of the team would like to see a demo of how to create a web service which is what I(we?) expect for this Friday. I can do the demo or you can.
Let me know.
Mike
I still haven't gotten anywhere on being able to accomplish the following goals:
1) Have enough control to be able to install web parts in the environment2) Being able to have the group access the box remotely
We can get WSS hosted and get a database out there no problem (I have a WebHost for Life account we can use for the service tier if we want) and I have the SharePoint Site under my account as well but I can't get our web parts installed.
You suggested bringing a box we could use, is that still a possability ? Let me know. If not I'll keep trying to scrape something up.
Good idea on the Web Service part - I think I can swing it, I also want to talk through Objects vs Datasets and make the "Architectural Desicion" on which to use for the web services. I think we will go with Datasets(they are easier to comprhend and consume) but we need to talk about other options and the pros and cons. I want everyone to learn from the experience :-) )
I have the GX620 on my desk and am beginning the Server 2003 install. Should I install R2? I assume we will want SQL Server 2005 on it also?
