New To Sharepoint...Set up question

We are in the process of installing SPS2007 on a webserver, and the DB is on a DB server...

Must both Servers be in the same domain?  or is it possible to set up both without either belonging to a domain at all?

Any help on this would be appreciated greatly....thank you in advance.
